Diary - Mile 2001.
Oregon is not flat.
Another myth. The trail is pretty flat (which is cool), but left and right there are ginormous stand-alone volcanoes patched with snow. It’s been a pleasant mix of volcanoes and forests, no wildfire smoke and a good weather.
We’ve crossed 2000 miles today! Woop woop! Canada has never been closer.
Also, yesterday was our day 100 on trail!
I’ve started listening to audio books, something I’ve not done before, but found to be really useful when you walk, as reading after the long day is kind of sleep-inducing. I was listening to Bill Bryson’s book “The Body”, which is basically a collection of facts about human body, but at some point he says something like “…we spend most of our day glued to screens…”. I smiled wide. I was walking this narrow path across yellow, dry grass, looking at South Sister volcano in front of me, breeze on my face, sun on my shoulder. The statement did not apply to me for the last 100 days.
And even though all I do all day long is walk for 10-12 hours from point A to point B, these have been the most well-spent consecutive 100 days of my 32 years of existence.
I’ll drink a cold coffee to that today.
