Diary - Mile 2229.9
Jungle.
I think Washington might just become my favorite state. The forests are like jungles with moss-covered fuzzy trees, birds screaming, rivers rushing AND snow covered mountains on the backdrop. It’s got forests AND mountains. What else do you need?
Oh, also, on the not so cool news of the trail, there’s a fire at the very, very end of this hike, and around 20 miles of the last stretch are now closed. I might not get to touch that final wooden monument that I sort of walked towards (because walking 2650 miles from one wooden monument to another is a great purpose). My only hope is rain up North. So for the next 20 days, before you go to bed, please wish for a bit of rain on the Washington-Canada border, and maybe collective power of thought will save the terminus from burning down.
